PETER L. DURANTE, M.D., J.D.as a physician and attorney has over 35 years experience in both professions. Dr. Durante has served most recently as both General Counsel and Director of Medical Affairs at the (fourth) best nationally ranked children’s hospital, The Children’s Hospital of Denver. Peter is a brilliant but soft spoken leader who has worked in diverse settings requiring political and cultural sensitivity. |
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Dr. Durante graduated and completed his residency in Internal Medicine from Georgetown University where he also started law school. He completed a Fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at the University of California, San Diego and served as a Major in the United States Air Force stationed at the Air Force Academy. While at USAFA he was the Director of the Cardio-Pulmonary Laboratory and served as a National Consultant to the Department of Defense in Internal Medicine.
After leaving the service, Dr. Durante finished his law studies and graduated from the University of Denver, College of Law. He worked in private practice of Internal Medicine until he joined the prominent and prestigious law firm of Hughes and Dorsey where he headed up their health law practice.
Upon completing the merger of two large hospitals, Presbyterian and St. Luke’s, he was asked to serve as in-house General Counsel for the resulting entity PSL Medical Center. This began a 25 year career in hospital administration serving both as Medical Director and legal counsel with operational responsibilities. His experience is wide-ranging, including employment, financing, real estate, insurance, medical staff issues, and risk management oversight. With operational responsibility and decision-making authority, he has participated in over 200 mediations involving medical malpractice and employment issues. Having worked with health care providers and attorneys, and now having completed requirements at the nationally and internationally known CDR, Associates course, he is uniquely qualified to bring his talents and experience to the mediation practice at Conflict Resolution Services, Inc. I have also completed the American Health Lawyers Mediation Essentials course.
